English Language Arts Department
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.”
-Frederick Douglass
The Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music’s English Department offers three rigorous levels of instruction: college prep, honors, and Advanced Placement. During their four years of high school, students will read a variety of classic and contemporary texts, both fiction and non-fiction. The staff challenges students with various writing assignments, projects, presentations, and performances. The English Language Arts Department has worked closely with all of the other subject areas to create a balanced, cross-curricular approach to teaching literature and language arts skills.

Language/ENL

Foreign Language Department
The Foreign Language department strives to instill in our students an appreciation of the Spanish language, culture, and customs of the Spanish-speaking countries and our local communities. We develop and enable each student to individually function in the foreign language in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through literary texts, movies, songs and community outings along with in-class immersion. The curriculum we use is based on the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning and encompasses commination, culture, connections, comparison and communities.

Science

Science Department
The Science Department is proud to have a 4-year program consisting of Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics and AP Biology. We emphasize the importance of hands-on laboratory techniques to aid in student discovery of their world and the world around them. We also encourage our students to think critically, to use technology and to be innovative. As Albert Einstein says, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.”

Math

Math Department
The Math Department at the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music offers a rigorous curriculum in Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and Computer Science. We develop all of our “future mathematicians” to think logically, all while solving a variety of real-world problems.

Resource

Resource Room Department
The resource room at the Celia Cruz Bronx High School provides support for students in every subject area. Students work together and in small groups with their teacher on work from various subject classes as well as specific resource room projects. Students learn skills in the resource room that they can apply in every class as well as outside of school. We focus on organization, time management, and study skills to help our students do their best academically and musically. The resource room provides a quiet space for students to receive individualized attention to help them succeed in and out of school.

Guidance

Counseling Office
The Celia Cruz High School of Music’s counseling department was designed as a result of inquiries from students, parents, and staff about the school counseling program. In this website, you will find the following information: services that are available through the counseling office, graduation requirements, calendar of activities, mission of the school counseling program, counseling related forms, and helpful counseling related links.
The mission of the Celia Cruz High School of Music’s counseling program is to facilitate the academic, career, personal and social growth of all students. It is our belief that by collaborating with teachers, parents, administrators, community representatives, and students themselves, we will ensure that all students are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.
